Hundreds of people from all over the world and throughout the United States have already made plans to travel to western Montana for the Montana Bicycle Celebration, July 14–17, 2016, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Bikecentennial. (View a list of attendees.)
One of the highlights of the weekend will include free, supported bike rides on the Bitterroot Trail on Saturday, July 16. The Bitterroot Trail bike rides will range from 10 to 100 miles, making the event inclusive to people of all ages and experience levels, from kids riding with training wheels to veteran Bikecentennial cyclists. Register for the free ride and optional one-way shuttles (for a nominal fee) at MontanaBikeCelebration.com. Shuttle registration will only be available until June 30.
Registration includes support along the trail like water, snacks, fix-it stations, swag, and entertainment, including performances by choirs in town to perform as part of the International Choral Festival. Choose your distance and ride out and back, turning around in Hamilton (47 miles one way), Victor (35 miles one way), Stevensville (29 miles one way), Florence (20 miles one way), or Lolo (11 miles one way). Or register to take a shuttle to one of the communities along the trail and ride back to Missoula.
Plan your ride to stop at Travelers’ Rest State Park in Lolo (about 10 miles south of Missoula) at 12 p.m. to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the Bitterroot Trail. The ride will end at an Expo in Silver Park in Missoula from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. with activities, vendors, and food.
That’s just part of what’s in store during the Montana Bicycle Celebration. Social events with music, art, film, and inspiring speakers are planned throughout the weekend. View the full schedule of events and purchase your tickets to the reception on Friday, July 15, and/or the dinner on Saturday, July 16.
