One of my favorite activities is riding my bike. Something else I love is camping! Bike touring combines the best of both worlds, so what could be better than that? Answer: a fully supported bike tour with catered meals!
Before the tour started, the top-notch caterer emailed me about my dietary restrictions and helped me with my dairy allergy.
We enjoyed quite a sampling of Arizona. Cute little towns like Sierra Vista, Arizona, a beautiful state park, the Sonoran and Chihuahuan Deserts, a local winery in Elgin, plus the beautiful blue skies and warm, breezy weather.
We had a variety of off-bike activities to choose from on our layover day. I hit up the fun antique shops, while many of my fellow participants did the Copper Queen mine tour. Bisbee is a cool little town! Nearby, you can check out the local flora and fauna at the Whitewater Draw Wildlife Area.
Being an early season tour and not being in the best shape from riding on the trainer, ugh, I was glad there were options every day to shorten the mileage.
The food was SO GOOD. I especially enjoyed the blue corn enchiladas and the lasagna, although we had some really good turkey burgers, too. Fresh salads with dinner every night and something sweet, plus hot breakfast every morning — plenty of food to keep hungry cyclists happy!
The lunch and water stops were fully stocked with snacks, water, Gatorade, friendly encouraging staff, and sun block for those of us who forgot! Having a mechanic on staff was also great — especially when I had three flats.
The riding was great! We had some very quiet, rural roads with lots of opportunities for pictures. I made new friends, which was awesome, and should I decide to do another fully supported tour, we have a fully supported tour right here in Montana: Montana Big Sky Country. Or maybe I could get out of town a little further for the Minnesota-Wisconsin Rivers & Trails tour! I do like riding on trails. If all that fails, I may go back to Arizona in the fall for the next Southern Arizona Road Adventure!
