Swift Industries, a Seattle bicycle bag company, is recognized worldwide for designing and manufacturing bicycle bags designed for urban cycling, long distance randonneuring, and bike-camping and touring. The company is driven by the love of bikes, an obsession with design, insatiable delight in bold colors and by contributing to a viable and vibrant local economy by making gear in the United States.
As if that isn’t already enough to inspire, there is something far bigger than a sewing studio at work at Swift Industries. The company is opening its doors on November 19, with a stunning showroom designed to inspire bicycle travel and showcase a diversity of companies that capture the verve of independent business. Each nook and cranny of the store dedicates itself to inspiring adventure with staff outdoor gear picks such as favorite sleeping mats, must-have kitchen kits, and unique shelters. Wandering souls will find the best regional Adventure Cycling maps for sale, in addition to packable fly fishing set-ups and guidebooks.
A dedicated map nook along with free wifi invites the community to stay a while. There are maps and gazetteers to pour over, and lists of favorite digital route planning resources to encourage analogue and digital adventure planning. Did someone say “pour over?” Swift Industries has teamed up with Portland’s Stumptown Coffee Roasters to host visitors with a cup of coffee while they mull about.
The Swift Industries showroom looks onto the company’s sewing floor, where bags are sewn daily. Visiting Swift brings their customers uniquely close to the process of gear manufacturing, and it’s a point of pride that bicycle travelers from all over the world sign in at the showroom guestbook. Seattle is an amazing crossroads for outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds. When you speak to locals, you’ll find that for many, the city’s proximity to true wilderness is what sealed the deal to put down roots. The Swift Industries headquarters is not only fuelled and supported by the city’s culture, but is quite literally at the gateway to some of the best exploring in the nation.
The company’s home looks out at the Amtrak Station that connects Seattle with other metropolitan hubs such as Portland and Vancouver, BC, but also accesses the North Cascades, Mount Rainier, and Mount Saint Helens. Ride three blocks to board a ferry toward Olympic National Park, or one can pedal due east to the stunning ponderosa pine forests of the Cascade rain shadow.
If you’re looking for adventure, look no further: Swift Industries is at the ready to help plan and outfit your next trip, and the showroom and sewing staff alike are passionate bike touring ambassadors and enablers.
