New Vote Announced

Dec 15th, 2025

Thank you for your overwhelming support in our recent building sale vote, where 94.7% of you voted in favor of this strategic decision. Your support for the future of Adventure Cycling means everything to us.

Since sending our December 9 communications, we’ve heard from many of you expressing frustration at the idea of a small group calling for a second vote when the first results are so strong. We understand and share your sentiment. You’ve told us the original vote was fair, transparent, and decisive—and we agree completely.

Why We’re Holding a Second Vote

Despite our confidence in the first vote’s integrity, the opposition group has not withdrawn its procedural challenges by the December 15 deadline we provided. We now face a choice: engage in potentially lengthy legal proceedings or conduct a second vote that addresses every technical concern raised.

While we believe in our process and results, having facilitated the first vote with good intent, lawsuits take more time and cost substantially more than a vote. We have a ready buyer who we cannot expect to wait while legal proceedings unfold. In our judgment, a second vote is the fastest, most cost-efficient way to settle this matter and move forward with the investments you’ve asked us to make.

We appreciate all of you for your patience, understanding, and continued support. We can’t get through this without you.

How the Second Vote Will Work

We’ve designed this process to address every procedural concern while making it as accessible as possible for members:

Key Dates:

  • December 16, 11:59 PM MT: Deadline to add household members or opt out of electronic ballot delivery. *Not applicable to Pedal Perks and Digital Hub member tiers.
  • December 16, 11:59 PM MT: Membership deadline (you must be a member by this time to vote)
  • January 13, 10:00 AM MT: Special member meeting (virtual)
  • January 13, 1:00 PM MT: Voting opens
  • January 20, 11:59 PM MT: Voting closes (mailed ballots must be postmarked by January 20)
  • January 31: Results announced

Member Meeting (January 13, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM Mountain Time): We’ll host a member meeting, giving members the opportunity to speak publicly. Members who want to speak will be able to RSVP for one 2-minute time slot, and with whatever time remains after those who RSPV, we will open the floor for additional comment. Keep an eye out for complete details on how to join this virtual meeting and how to RSVP in a separate communication.

Ballot Delivery: By default, you will receive your ballot electronically (email). This is faster, more cost-effective, and our understanding is that most members prefer it. However, if you would prefer not to receive ballot emails and only receive a mailed ballot, you can opt out of electronic delivery through your email communication preferences by December 16, 2025, 11:59 PM MT.

Household Voting: This vote will use pro rata household voting. If you have household members registered in your Adventure Cycling account, each household member can vote, but votes are proportional. For example:

  • Two household members both vote: each vote counts as 0.5 for a total of 1.0
  • Two household members, only one votes: that vote counts as 1.0 for a total of 1.0

Household members must be added to your account by December 16, 2025, 11:59 PM MT. You can add them by logging into My Adventure Cycling on our website. (Note: Pedal Perks and Digital Hub level accounts do not qualify for household memberships.)

Voicemail Voting: We will continue to offer voicemail voting as an accessibility accommodation for members who need it.

Independent Administration: Just as with the first vote, an independent third party will administer the voting process with full transparency and audit oversight.

Member List Requests: Under Montana law, members may request the membership list in connection with this vote and meeting. It is likely other members will use this to contact you directly. Member list requests must be submitted to questions@adventurecycling.org and are made available in accordance with Montana law. The use of the member list is limited to communication with other members about the membership meeting or vote for which the list was prepared, and it may only be used in good faith; it may not be shared outside the membership or used for unrelated purposes. To opt out of having your email shared in a member list, go to your Communication Preferences in any Adventure Cycling email footer and check Opt Out of Member List Sharing and submit.

Discussion Channels: In addition to a member meeting, we will continue to host various positions and discussions on our Forums and social channels without moderation (excepting slander and foul language).

Extended FAQ: We will continue to answer your recurring questions by adding to the FAQ on the voting landing page over the next couple of weeks, as well as in our direct email communications. You can send your questions to questions@adventurecycling.org.

What Your Vote Will Make Possible

In addition to continuing to deliver our core programs and offerings, your support for this building sale enables Adventure Cycling to invest in the future you’ve told us you want to see:

  • A modern website where you can easily access routes, member benefits, and inspirational content
  • Increased advocacy partnerships and event attendance like the National Bike Summit
  • Expanded route offerings in new geographies and closer to where you live
  • Regional member meetups and community-building opportunities
  • A mentor program connecting experienced and new bicycle travelers
  • Educational webinars to help more people discover bicycle travel
  • New programming including our Drop-in Rides and the Golden Gravel Trail (3,700 miles!!)
  • Continued investment in our 50,000-mile route network

All while maintaining our physical presence in our beloved Missoula building and celebrating our 50th anniversary throughout 2026.

Moving Forward Together

We know this second vote requires more time and energy from you and us. We estimate it will cost approximately another $30,000 and divert staff resources from program development during a critical period. But it will cost less than litigation, and we are confident the result will reaffirm your mandate, and then we can move forward together without distraction.

Thank you for your patience, your passion for this organization, and for sticking with us through this process. We’re eager to get back to the work you’ve asked us to do: inspiring, empowering, and connecting people to travel by bicycle.

If you have questions about the voting process or timeline, please contact us at questions@adventurecycling.org.

Onward,

Andy Williamson, Executive Director
