The 2018 Greg Siple Award application period has ended. There were four awards available, two Intro to Bike Travel and two Outdoor Leadership, in 2018. Read about the winners.
Always ready for the next adventure, Intro to Bike Travel applicants find bicycle touring and bikepacking intriguing and would love to get rolling, but need help starting their bike-travel story. Let us equip you with the bike, gear, and an Intro to Road Touring course, so you can write the first chapter of this new adventure. Then, with your story-telling skills, you’ll share your experience and inspire others to take their own first adventurous pedal strokes.

Looking to take bike travel to the next level? Outdoor Leadership applicants already know bikepacking and bicycle touring shift their gears, and they love sharing their tales of travel. Let us sharpen your story-telling pencil with a Leadership Training Course, some new gear, and an additional self-contained tour. You’ll gain even more experience, have fun, and find a bike-hungry audience eager to be inspired by your veteran, bike-loving tales of wheel-spinning fun.

The Greg Siple Award for Young Adult Bicycle Travel is open to U.S. citizens only. Applicants must be 18 to 30 years old on March 1, 2018.
Finalists were notified by February 9 and asked to submit a short video recording or do a live interview (no more than two minutes) in response to one question.
The four winners were notified by March 1, 2018.

Nearly 100 people applied for The Greg Siple Award, and four talented young adults will be selected to win the award and bike-travel gear, thanks to REI, Big Agnes, Arkel, BikeFlights.com, and ABUS. Winners will be announced by March 1. In the meantime, find out more about the applicants.
