Underground RailRoad

2016 UGRR
A mostly hot and humid Summer mostly solo self-supported ride mostly in June with some mechanical issues, some lodging issues, directional issues and still worth it because of all the great people I met along the way. Joined 3 other guys cycling the same route during last week and made it more fun. (James Reynolds, May, 2016)

Cycling the Underground Railroad: Swing Low Sweet Chariot
A fellow pastor & I cycled the UGRR as a sabbatical pilgrimage, exploring the history & spirituality of the fugitive slaves & those who helped them escape to freedom. I developed a series of sermons & programs from my experience which I presented in my congregation & to several community groups. (Joseph Culpepper, May, 2009)

Soutern 1/3 of UGRR April 2011

Bicycling the Underground Railroad
My husband, Ilkka Suvanto, and I took our tandem pulling a BOB trailer in the Spring of 2008 and followed the Drinking Gourd as it pointed northward from Alabama to Canada. We love cycling and history, and this challenging route rewarded us on both counts. (Joan Laxson, Apr, 2008)

Underground Railroad Freedom Ride: Mobile to Fulton
My Underground Railroad cycling journey starts with the first "400 mile leg" from Mobile AL to Fulton MS. The balance of the 2,006 mile route to Canada I'll tackle in 2017. I work with an initiative to stop child trafficking and trip will help raise funds for this project. (Jan Bell, Oct, 2016)

The purpose of the “Freedom Tour” is to bike 1700 miles in 30 days following Adventure Cycling’s Underground Railroad Route, to raise awareness and resources to help abolish Human Trafficking - the Modern Day Slavery. (Bill Graves, Jun, 2010)

Ohio to New Orleans
A solo, unsupported ride to understand my backyard and a chance to finally see the true south and fall in love with it. (Danny Wills, Jun, 2010)

Joan & Mike's Bicycle Adventure (UGRR)
We followed the Adventure Cycling published Underground Railroad bike route. We went from Mobile to Cincinnati, took 10 days off there at home, then completed the route to Owen Sound. Also did a side trip to see family in Oliphant, Ontario at the end. (Mike Weingarten, May, 2007)

Underground Railroad
April 19 completed the total ride in 30 days NB on tandem with my wife Rhoda, age 64 with support vehicle. Great ride! Had to deal with many over protective dogs southern section. The river hills very challenging. Be prepared for detours in N. section. (Ed Longenecker, Apr, 2007)
