Summary: Truly the most wonderful experience of my life, as I look back at age 77.It was physically challenging. There was so much natural beauty every day, even in places where it was unexpected. And last, but not least, is was the best way ever to really meet Americans across the country.; Commercial Trip
Health Issues: None.
Motivation: At that time in my life, I wanted a break from work and to have a manageable adventure.
Most Challenging Aspect:Gaining the confidence that I could actually climb all those mountains with all the gear. At times it seemed like we were always going uphill, with significant grades.
Favorite Experience: Eating dinner with the group every night and sharing all our experiences.
Least Favorite: Multiple flat tires on entering Kansas, with the little plant "spike"s that blew onto the road from the winter wheat fields. It was the first thing for which I was unprepared - not enough glue and patches.
Tips: Get ready for a magical adventure! And be in the best shape you can be at the start, because the hill climbing starts pretty quickly after leaving the Oregon coast. Train with your gear, fully loaded, before the trip.
