Summary: I flew into Leh in Ladakh, a Tibetan region high in the Himalaya, then made my way south--with lots of detours--to the lower Himalaya.; Self-Planned
Health Issues: None, but I spent a week in Leh to gradually acclimatize.
Motivation: Tibetan culture and high-altitude Himalayan cycling.
Most Challenging Aspect:All-day climbs to reach the top of a 17,000-foot-plus pass.
Favorite Experience: Reaching the top of those Himalayan passes!
Least Favorite: Unfriendly Muslim kids near Kargil who threw rocks at me.
Tips: This ride is one of the great Himalayan classics--try to put on your life dream list!
