Summary: From the historic city of Cochin in Kerala, I followed the coastal plain around to Tamil Nadu and finished at Chennai (Madras), visiting people and many temples and ancient monuments along the way.; Self-Planned

Health Issues: None. I love Indian cuisines and have acclimated to the spices and less-than-ideal sanitation!

Motivation: I had been cycling in South India twice before and liked it very much. This time I wished to see more of the region, especially the temple towns.

Most Challenging Aspect:The main highways of Kerala have heavy traffic. Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh are much better.

Favorite Experience: Visiting the Hindu temples, especially Tirupati in southern Andhra Pradesh.

Least Favorite: Searching for a decent hotel in Chennai that would let me keep my bicycle inside.

Tips: An eyeglass-mounted rear-view mirror is a good idea to keep an eye on trucks and other traffic. Bike shops rarely carry parts for Western bicycles, so you need to be able to do your own maintenance and repairs.
