Summary: Prince of Wales Island is the third largest island in the 50 states and has a growing network of lightly used paved roads perfect for biking. We ferried to the island, camped and stayed in a Forest Service cabin.; Self-Planned

How did ACA Help? This was my first bicycle tour since 1976! Amazing what kicked back in for riding habits and the flood of memories from Bikecentennial days. For more on this ride, check out March 2011 Adventure Cycling.

Health Issues: See above.

Motivation: A desire to start bicycle touring again.

Most Challenging Aspect:Getting back in shape.

Favorite Experience: I don't do favorites well. The trip was a joy, even when struggling up hills in the rain.

Least Favorite: Remembering and rediscovering numb hands from riding vibration.

Tips: My greatest learning for the trip - breath in twice for every exhale to fully inflate your lungs and power up the hills.
