Summary: At the age of 20, toured the US on a bicycle with my friend Chris Seaman. We started in Astoria, OR and ended in VA Beach, VA following mostly the Bikecentential Route. A great time and wonderful memories to this day.; Self-Planned

How did ACA Help? We purchased the Transamerica Route through the Bikecentenial Organization.

Health Issues: Poison ivy in Virginia when we spent one day helping a family dismantle and old log cabin. The heat and poison ivy were brutal.

Motivation: It was Chris' graduation from CMU and between my Sophmore and Junior year at Penn State. Just something to do for the summer; to have fun and see the US at 14 mph.

Most Challenging Aspect:The hills of Kentucky and heat of Virginia in July.

Favorite Experience: Meeting the people and enjoying the generosity of so many people helping us, letting us sleep in the yards, sheds, beds; the meals and occasional showers and simple things in life.

Least Favorite: Not too much. The headwinds in the Kansas were rough; much more difficult mentally and physically than most of the mountain climbs.

Tips: Dip one tire in the either the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean and do not stop pedaling until you hit the other shore. Enjoy every moment in between.

Date Entered: Jul, 2012
