Summary: Journey of a Lifetime! I began the trip solo, but I rode with many people, including the bikecentennial group led by Clayton Black. I have many memories and friends from that awesome summer of 1986.; Self-Planned
How did ACA Help? I have an original Bicycling Magazine from 1976, Bikecentennial edition. It features the TransAerica Trail Ride of 76'. I purchased and used official TransAm Trail maps from bikecentennial.
Health Issues: none. My Brooks saddle was awesome, so no rear sores. How many use Brooks today? or even know brooks?
Motivation: The motivation for the trip would be the cycling, the travel, the experience and excitement.
Most Challenging Aspect:The most challenging aswould have to be eating properly. Physical and mental aspects were very easy for me as I have been an athlete my whole life.
Favorite Experience: I have many favorite experiences of the trip, way too many to even list here. If I had to really pick I'd say the people I met and traveled with.
Least Favorite: Flying home to Detroit from Portland. I could not believe the trip was over.
Tips: Take many pictures and write a log! You'll enjoy it for the rest of your life.
