Summary: Lead GEEK602 from Yorktown, Virginga to Pubelo, Colorado then contined on to Astoria, Oregon as an independent rider with a friend from Ohio. Wonderful experience to have so many riders on the road every day and to have the local folks excited about the idea. We had 12" of rain in 24 hours in the Ozarks and didn't even notice the hills. First sight of the Pacific Ocean.; Commercial Trip

How did ACA Help? Leader of Golden Spokes East trip then used maps as an independent to continue to Astoria

Health Issues: I have had lifelong knee problems and they bothered me during some of the long days of wind.

Motivation: I had been bicycling and touring for over 10 years and knew some on the folks in the organization. I graduated from college in May 1976 and had been planning to ride across the US for years that summer.

Most Challenging Aspect:Learning to "lead" a group of folks from 16 to 69 years of age.

Favorite Experience: Seeing the western US including the Pacific Ocean - Everything on the route from Yellowstone to the coast was new to me.

Least Favorite: The heat and steep mountains in the east.

Tips: Pick a date and start planning your trip even if it is ten years in the future. Otherwise someday will become never.

Date Entered: Oct, 2013
