Summary: Thirteen of us, 7 males and 6 females started out from Astoria, Oregon heading for Pueblo, CO. Along the way we had the ups and downs common to all long distance, self-contained bicycle tourists. We mostly were in good spirits even when camping after a day of rain or a not-so-good camp dinner. It remains a high point of my touring career (I led 13 tours between 1976 & 1993. PLB Life Member; Commercial Trip

How did ACA Help? We followed the U.S. West route 100% of the time.

Health Issues: none

Motivation: The challenge, the opportunity to be a group leader & ride for free, and I love the west.

Most Challenging Aspect:Dealing with 12 other individuals, not all of whom liked camping as much I do.

Favorite Experience: Leaving Missoula, when over 100 riders left on the same day as members of one group or another.

Least Favorite: Breaking 17 spokes between Astoria and Pueblo, even after rebuilding rear wheel twice (Corvalis and Missoula

Tips: Happiness is learning to accept what is in front of you without wanting it to be different.
