Summary: This trip was one of the highlights of my life. ; Commercial Trip

How did ACA Help? We were a " Bike Inn" group, so the lodging arrangements had been made in advance. Leaders and maps were also provided.

Motivation: It was the chance of a lifetime to go on this adventure. I had been an intern at The Huffy Corporation, an early sponsor of Bikecentennial. They sponsored me so I was able top take the summer off from working. It was the oppourtunity to see the whole country, up close, and to push myself to accomplish a monumental goal.

Most Challenging Aspect:The wind across Kansas and the hills and roads of eastern Kentucky.

Favorite Experience: After 30 years the whole experience stands out as my favorite experience.

Least Favorite: When we were riding out of Newton , Kansas, the group member I was riding with hit a small patch of gravel and fell. She hit head first and fortunately was wearing a helmet, which most of us didn't in those days. Still being in town we were able to get an ambulance to take her to the local hospital. She suffered a concussion and was not able to re-join the group for a number of weeks.

Tips: Pack as light as possible, take lots of pictures and enjoy the journey by not going too fast.
