Rider: Bob Buccini; Physician, Non-Member UNITED STATES Email
Summary: We rode west to east in one of the first camping groups in the inaugural year of the Trans-America Trail.; Commercial Trip
How did ACA Help? You made the whole thing possible by coming up with the idea, organizing the ride, and providing me with the best trip leader ever (Lloyd Sumner).
Motivation: I was drawn to the sense of adventure inherent in crossing the continent on a bicycle.
Most Challenging Aspect:The Ozarks were the hardest part of the trip, especially in the summertime Missouri heat.
Favorite Experience: The best part of the trip was finding out, at our "victory" celebration at the end of the ride, that my mother had quit smoking in a deal with God for my safe passage.
Least Favorite: There was one REALLY bad day, when we decided to take a "shortcut" on 20 miles of gravel in the middle of nowhere.
Tips: The ride becomes much more enjoyable and fulfilling when the focus is on the trip itself, not the accomplishment associated with the completion of the trip.
