The Great Divide Mountain Bike Route has received incredible media coverage over the last few years, made famous in large part by the fabulous documentary Ride the Divide and its subject, the unsanctioned, winner-takes-nothing-but-bragging-rights Tour Divide race, which runs the route's entire 2,774 miles.
Early this year, with the release of the second edition of Mac McCoy's classic Cycling the Great Divide: From Canada to Mexico on North America's Premier Long-Distance Mountain Bike Route guidebook on the horizon, we brainstormed how we could promote the solitude, beauty, and accessibility of the route to an even broader swath of cyclists who weren't looking to compete, but just enjoy the ride and stunning beauty of the route; cyclists wishing to ride it in its entirety at their own pace, or who hope to complete a short section of the route, perhaps on a leisurely weeklong tour. (Did you know that our maps for the route are broken into 250- to 500-mile map sections?) So, over the last six months Adventure Cycling and Co-Motion Cycles, in conjunction with Revelate Designs, worked to produce a terrific new highlights video for the Great Divide. Directed, shot, and edited by videographer and photographer Doug Davis, we're pretty happy with the results. Check it out below.
Co-Motion Cycles and Revelate Designs have also put together some great gear recommendations for the route.
Mac McCoy is currently out on a mini-tour to promote the second edition of Cycling the Great Divide and the route. You can catch him tonight at the Corte Madera REI and tomorrow at the Berkeley REI. Watch for more dates this spring!

Inspiring video of a ride that is on my life to do list.
Fantastic sound track too. Anyone know if the artist has any albums for sale?
Nice video. I've been riding segments of the Divide route since 1998, obviously missing some years. Now down to Del Norte in southern CO. Only negative comment is that the video depicts easier climbs and roads and, except for the guy with the BOB, lighter loads than seemed typical for anyone but the Divide race participants. Start soon, I am 67 and hoping to finish before my health fails to sustain such things.
This or part of it may be on the agenda after bella coola to nelson? Sky is the limit out here! :-)
HEY! That biker pulling the BOB trailer at 4:30 is riding on THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD!!!! lol
Maybe they are from OZ so it's only natural! :p
Beautiful video. But...the music makes you want to scratch your eyes out!!
Love it! Hope to take the plunge one day.
Wonderful video! I think this may be my next scheduled adventure!
Great video! Really gets me motivated to try another section this next summer.

I did some stretches last year and it's phenomenal.
I agree with John as well, anyone know who the artist or what the song is?
