The Call of the Sierras

February 7, 2017 - Heather Andersen is an Adventure Cycling tour leader who will be leading two tours this spring.

“The mountains are calling, and I must go.” –John Muir

I set out from Lake Tahoe in mid-October, knowing I was pushing it a bit seasonally, but listening to the call of the mountains compelled me to scope out two new tours I’ll be leading late this spring — Central California Sierra and Southern California Sierra. One of the things I love about riding and leading tours on Adventure Cycling’s Sierra Cascades route is that it’s jam-packed with mountain scenery and highlights ranging from national parks to hidden gems. If you want to experience the diversity of the country, go with any of the west to east routes. If you want to experience the scenic grandeur of this country, day after day after day, and love to climb, go Sierra Cascades.

Here are some photos from my trip.

Heather Andersen believes in spending time outdoors every day, seizing the moment, and living a life of no regrets. A writer, bicycle tour leader, and certified yoga teacher, she has cycled on six continents and in all 50 U.S. states. She is most at home when exploring the world by bicycle, whether riding around the block or in foreign lands. Heather is the author of I Never Intended to Be Brave: A Woman’s Bicycle Journey Through Southern Africa

Tours she has led include Great Parks North, Southern Tier, Washington Cascades, San Juan Islands Ramble, Introduction to Road Touring — Wisconsin, and Utah Parks. She leads tours to share her passion for bicycle touring and for the opportunity to inspire others to follow their dreams.

She has designed four segmented Sierra Cascades tours for Adventure Cycling and will be leading two van-supported tours, Southern California Sierra and Central California Sierra, during the 2017 tour season.
