Reflective Legbands for Clean Pants & Safe Riding

December 15, 2014

Over the years I’ve lost a number of pants to hungry chainrings. Double that number have been besmirched by the dark aftermath of chain contact. The ubiquitous Velcro affair with hook-and-loop closure works most of the time, but will inevitably fail or loosen at the least convenient moment. Rolling up one’s pant leg is another common solution but leads to chilly ankles and can also unravel, creating a potentially hazardous situation.

Enter Slap & Wrap™: Reflective Pant Leg Bands from California-based CycleAware. Just like the wristbands some may recall from a bygone era, the interior structure is one of layered, flexible stainless steel bistable spring bands sealed within a reflective plastic cover with felt lining on the inner surface.

In its coiled form, the structure is not tensioned and grips harder when stressed. The band is 2 ½” wide and 15 ½” long – perfect for keeping most pants wrangled. The reflective covering has elicited numerous compliments from motorists and effectively takes the place of [tiny and easily lost] pedal reflectors.

After a couple years of daily use, the outer plastic covering has a few dings but otherwise continues to perform admirably. I would strongly recommend this product to anyone who wears pants while cycling.
