January 6, 2017 - Willie Weir blogs for Adventure Cycling every other Friday.
Kat and I wild camped in the East Rift Valley of Taiwan. The morning mist gave the world a soft filter that didn’t quite reveal the entire road ahead. The mountains loomed in the distance, and a new day slowly revealed itself. So many possibilities!
The New Year brings new dreams and plans of bike travel. Where do you want to pedal? Across your state? Your country? Your world?
I wrote a post years ago called “The Seven Wanders of Your World” that described the importance of making your dreams of travel both specific and varied. Very few of us will travel all the places we dream about, but you need to dream before you can plan.
Gaze at maps. Read other bike traveler’s blogs. Read those articles you missed in back copies of Adventure Cyclist magazine.
Make 2017 the year you try something new — a group bike camping trip, a fatbike ride, a multi-modal city tour.
Dream small. Dream big.
Dream. Pedal. Travel. Repeat.
