We are very grateful to be beneficiaries of Climate Ride again this year! Everyone here at Adventure Cycling is so geared up for it that in order to choose team captains for Climate Ride NYC to DC we had to hold a lottery!
The Adventure Cycling Team Captain for Climate Ride New York to DC will be, drum roll please….. Julie Huck, our Membership Director! Julie has worked at Adventure Cycling for the past 28 years, so if you’ve stopped by or called to inquire about your membership, there’s a good chance you’ve talked with her.
Julie, tell us a little bit about yourself.
"I am the Membership Director here, so my job is to let more people know about bicycle travel and the services Adventure Cycling offers. I also encourage folks to join our organization and support the work we do. I love bicycle travel, so it’s easy for me to promote cycling both in and out of work. In my free time I volunteer with our local touring club and organize a women’s mountain bike group call the Montana Dirt Girls. I’ve had the pleasure of leading some of Adventure Cycling’s organized tours including Cycle Montana, Glacier Park Explorer and a few Leadership Training Classes. Now I spend most of my saddle time on my mountain bike. I’ve been riding sections of the Great Divide route since it was first created.”
Why are you excited about Climate Ride?
“I’m looking forward to spending 5 days riding from New York City to Washington, DC. I grew up on the east coast and participated in my first overnight bike tour from Connecticut to New York when I was in high school. But, I haven’t been back for a bike trip since moving to Montana. I feel cycling brings you closer to the land you live on. You feel the cold, wind, rain, and sun on your skin. As I cyclist I can see the effects of climate change directly on the landscapes I ride through. Climate Ride will also be a great way for me to share my love of cycling with others.
What can riders expect when they join Adventure Cycling's Climate Ride New York to DC team?
"We are going to have a great time on this ride! Plus, your hard work and fundraising efforts are directly supporting the implementation of the U.S. Bicycle Route System. You'll be riding with some of the country's most dedicated advocates of bicycling and sustainability, and you'll be at the forefront of a national dialog on climate change and the development of dedicated bicycling infrastructure. To top it off, we'll be spending a week riding through some of amazing countryside, meeting amazing people, and forming relationships and connections that will increase awareness and support for the U.S. Bicycle Route System."
If you want to join Julie on Climate Ride and raise funds to help build an official U.S. Bicycle Route System, visit the Adventure Cycling team page and register to ride! We can't wait to see you there!
If you can't ride with us this time, but would like to support Julie's fundraising efforts, visit her Climate Ride page to make a donation.
