Impressed with the Midwest

September 26, 2014

Since coming home from riding Climate Ride Midwest (300 miles of cycling) friends have teased me by saying that I should make a t-shirt that reads, "I AM IMPRESSED WITH THE MIDWEST." Apparantly I've been saying that a lot lately.

But I say that because it's true! Confession: I was not the "most excited" to cycle the Midwest. Don't get me wrong, I was excited to ride my bike for four days straight with amazing people who were raising money for causes they truly believe in, but I wouldn't have ever said my dream bike tour is to ride from Grand Rapids, Michigan to Chicago, Illinois. After Climate Ride, I'm already planning my next bike tour in the Midwest, because it was some of the most beautiful cycling I've ever done.

The Midwest has so much to offer to cyclists: bike paths galore, amazing swimming, beautiful farm views, delicious fruit, wineries, incredible clouds, US Bicycle Routes, warm nights for bonfires on the beach, breweries, spectacular views for days, etc., etc. I was blown away.

But what shined the brightest were the people I met on this trip. Climate Ride is an amazing organization that draws incredible people. The conversations I had in the saddle with people from all over the country were truly inspiring. I am so excited to have 110+ new friends from this amazing trip.

Strong work, Climate Ride. You have converted me to a Midwest-lover and have inspired me to look around at this beautiful world and find countless ways to preserve it. I am so thankful to have been a part of this experience and encourage everyone I know to challenge themselves to a Climate Ride at some point. It feels great!

Thank you so much to everyone who made my Climate Ride happen and to all of the wonderful friends who encouraged me before, during, and after.

Thank you, Emily!

I have met so many RAGBRAI enthusiasts that I will definitely take that opportunity if it ever presents itself!
