Getting Ready for a Winter Cycling Cap?

September 8, 2014

September heralds autumn here in Montana, and summer is over in a snap. I’m not saying that it’s winter yet, but Missoula’s forecast tonight is calling for temps in the low 30’s. That makes tomorrow’s commute to the office brisk, to say the least. Last year, Cyclosource brought on the Walz winter wool cycling cap. Tomorrow morning’s ears will be glad it did.

We knew we wanted to carry a functional cap for our touring cyclists, and found Walz to be the best selection and quality. If you’re not familiar with Walz caps, they are out of San Diego, CA. Walz has been making bicycling caps for a long time. Their claim to fame is the fact that all of their caps are hand made in the U.S. and guaranteed to fit perfectly. Also, they get rave reviews for their fashionable styles.

Among all the caps that Walz makes we chose the wool cap to add to our collection of functional winter apparel. The winter wool cap is made with 100% wool. Wool wicks away moisture, retains heat and dries very quickly. Also, wool is naturally antibacterial, which means it doesn’t retain odor from sweat. The winter cap has built in ear flaps that can fold out to cover the ears and neck when needed on those chilly mornings. Then, when it warms up in the afternoon, the ear flaps can be folded back into the cap and tucked away. The headband on the inside is made of a synthetic moisture wicking material to keep you dry. Walz caps are made with a soft, flexible bill that holds its shape but can be easily folded for stowing away into your pocket, duffle bag or pannier.

The Walz cap is made to be worn under a helmet and therefore is close-fitting. It does not bunch or cause uncomfortable pressure points on the head. These caps are more than functional, they look good, too. It’s easy to wear one on the bike as well as into your favorite brew pub. We here at Adventure Cycling find them to be a great fit and a functional piece of cool, cool-weather gear.

The Walz caps come in two sizes, unisex small/medium and large/extra large. See the website for exact sizing. You can find our Adventure Cycling winter Walz wool caps at the Cyclosource online store and our Cyclosource catalog.
