Discover the French Cycle-Touring Federation

August 3, 2017 - Sophie Zamora submitted this guest post for the French Cycle-Touring Federation.

Much like Adventure Cycling’s mission to inspire and empower people to travel by bicycle in North America, the French Cycle-Touring Federation (FFCT) promotes bicycle tourism and cycling in France through their website, veloenfrance.fr. Each year, FFCT’s 127,000 members promote cycling with 4,500 events for both road cyclists and mountain bikers, attracting more than two million participants.

Visit their website, veloenfrance.fr, to plan a cycling vacation in France by searching through more than 3,000 trips from family-friendly outings to  advanced, big adventures, and everything in between.

Once you find a trip, you can view photos, read a description, find contact information, and more, like parks, outstanding sites, museums and the best places to stay. You can even download information as a .pdf file or export the route as a .gpx file. Veloenfrance.fr is available on your smartphone, computer, and tablet and in five languages: French, English, German, Spanish, and Dutch.

Special Events

  • Each year, the Federation organizes a big week of cycle touring in France. In 2017, this event takes place in Normandy, in the charming village of Mortagne-au-Perche, July 30 through August 6. Watch for this event in 2018.
  • And each year, the Federation labels a few unique events:
    • Les cyclomontagnardes is for high-profile cycling events in the French mountains, like Vosges, Jura, Alps, Massif Central, and the Pyrenees. This year from June to July, for example, you have seven possibilities to challenge you and discover another part of France.
    • Les Vertes Tout-Terrain and la Maxi-Verte. These nine key events are dedicated to mountain biking from the countryside in the north of France to the the sun of the southern France.
