Of all the great pairings of cycling with other activities — cycling and baseball, cycling and beer — my all time favorite combo is cycling and coffee. Of COURSE, there is a Facebook page for this activity!

The worldwide Coffeeneuring Challenge runs October 13 through November 19, and the rules are simple:

  • Make a trip of at least two miles round trip by bicycle to a different coffee shop one day each week.
  • Enjoy your favorite beverage there, take a picture, and share it (see the rules).

This trip cannot be a part of your daily routine. The Challenge is designed to get you out on your bike for extra miles and extra smiles!

My bike, helmet, and COFFEE!

October and November in Missoula are usually perfect months for this activity with crisp fall temps perfectly suited to both cycling and hot beverage drinking. I’ve explored several shops completely new to me and gone on bike rides I’d not normally not make time for, which is the main point. It’s gotten me talking to baristas and shop owners that I might have never met otherwise, and into neighborhoods I hadn’t explored before by bike.

Latte love.

Of course, since any coffee shop on planet Earth is an eligible location, I find myself this fall dreaming of joining Adventure Cycling’s SOCAL Sun and Surf in February to sample the treats and coffee at the Julian Pie Company. But why stick that close to home when the world is beckoning? I may fly off to the Hawaii Big Island - Spring ride in April and savor world famous Kona brew at the Daylight Mind Coffee Company. You get the picture. There are endless places to ride, and thus endless places to coffeeneur. With over 100 tours to choose from in 2018, just pick one, grab your bike, and your coffee mug, and go!
