I remember last spring sitting down to write a blog article about helping my 17-year-old son plan his cross-country bike trip.

Spring, a time for training and planning summer bike trips. This year, all my time and energy is devoted to the bike trip of a lifetime — for my youngest son, Mac.
The time has finally arrived — the Underground Railroad Detroit Alternate, section 1, is ready to ride. Section 1 begins in Oberlin, Ohio, and travels northwest to Sandusky and Toledo before entering southern Michigan, traveling through significant historic communities including Adrian, Ann Arbor, and Detroit.
Four years ago, I was asked to help create and lead a bicycle tour of the Ohio portion of the Underground Railroad Bicycle Route for a group of eight students and three adults from the Bronx Lab School, a public high school in New York.
