We recently sat down with Town Pump Hotel Group to find out more about the company and what they believe in.

Tell us about your company and its history:

In 1953, Tom and Mary Kenneally started Town Pump as a small full service gas station in Butte, Montana. Town Pump operates full service unbranded gas stations located in separate markets and in separate towns.

Founder, Tom Kenneally Sr. would hand his customers his wristwatch to time his oil change guaranteed to take less than 3 minutes or the oil change was free!

Today, Town Pump  owns and operates over 200 gas station/convenience store, casino, hotel and car wash properties throughout Montana and Idaho.

Town Pump continually strives to be Montana’s Best by:

  • investing all net income back into Montana communities
  • providing the highest quality products  and services to meet customer’s needs
  • investing in the  best technology available to protect the environment
  • helping others through the Town Pump Charitable Foundation.

Talk about your company's mission and how it relates to your decision to support the U.S. Bicycle Route System.

Town Pump is committed to:

  • Providing our customers excellence.  Our entire business is based on being the best at providing customers quality and value and therefore we value our customers above all and continually respond to their changing needs.
  • Providing our team opportunities for personal and professional growth through our long-standing commitment to train, develop and promote from within.  We recognize it is our team’s contributions that strengthen our ability to compete, prosper and grow.
  • Fulfilling our responsibility to give back to Montana communities by providing financial support to social programs through charitable and corporate giving.
  • Building our resource base of personnel, technology and property to sustain our efficiencies and allow for future development.
  • Protecting and preserving our environment by investing in state of the art leak detection and leak prevention equipment.  Town Pump is ever vigilant of environmental safety through our commitment to employ the best technologies available. Town Pump’s standards exceed federal and state environmental regulations.
  • Providing leadership in paying attention to every detail and communicating our team’s responsibility as caretakers of the business for our employees, customers and communities.

The vision of Town Pump is to continue building our product line and services throughout Montana, reinvesting all net income back into the Montana communities we serve and expanding our product offerings to meet the growing needs of our customers.

By giving back to our local communities, we feel our mission aligns with that of the US Bicycle Route System.

What 5 cycling-related things are you most excited about now?

  1. I believe that Montana has some of the most amazing cycling trails in North America.  I think the Butte 100 Mountain Bike Race Trail and the Continental Divide Trail System among other great trails are becoming more popular as they are discovered.
  2. I think that we live in one of the most beautiful states and seeing it by bike is the best way to see it.
  3. My husband is becoming an avid cyclist and I am a beginner but we are thoroughly enjoying ourselves.  In addition to this my son is very good and it is a great outlet for him.  He actually got his Dad and I interested in cycling.
  4. I believe in the efforts of Adventure Cycling to have Montana represented on the USBRS.
  5. I think there is an increase in premier opportunities in regards to lodging for traveling cyclists, with Town Pump Hotels being an exceptional option.

Where would you like to see cycling in the United States 5 years from now?

I would like to see more people become aware of the health benefits and fun you can have while cycling.  I would also like to see more cities have bike lanes and be bike friendly.

What one product of yours would you like to be sure touring cyclists know about?

Our hotels and convenience stores for rest and refueling are something we can provide to touring cyclists.  Our 13 hotels and one RV Park as well as our 90+ stores located throughout Montana are a perfect fit.

Our hotels offer safe and secure parking as well as bike washing stations.  Our Convenience Stores offer a wide variety of snacks and beverages as well.

You can see our hotel locations and stores at the following websites:
