This lariat loop from Middlegate, NV to Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park is 60% paved and 40% dirt road. I would rate this route a 3 on Adventure Level, Hilly for Terrain, and Easy to Moderate as far as Technical Difficulty. Gravel bikes and mountain bikes are recommended.
Day 1 Middlegate to Berlin-Ichthyosaur; 56 miles. We will visit the mining ruins through the Broken Hills, cross the Paradise Range at Burnt Cabin Summit, cross the Ione Valley to the near-ghost town of Ione, then on to camp at Berlin-Ichthyosaur. At camp we can visit the Berlin Ghost Town and the Ichthyosaur exhibit.
Day 2 Berlin-Ichthyosaur to Middlegate; 50 miles. We will climb over the Paradise Range for an amazing descent above the active mining town of Gabbs. We will return on State Route 361 to Middlegate. Day 2 is almost entirely paved.
