Exploring Near My Front Door

Name of Park or Public Land:
Morgan-Monroe State Forest, Martinsville IN

Number of participants:
1

Ride Description:

Tent camping only; no RVs. Backcountry area is limited to minimal-impact camping/hiking by permit. Mostly paved roads, but some are unpaved or gravel, especially within the state forest boundaries. About 6.5% grade on my intended route on Old Indiana State Route 37, a little bit north of Bloomington where I live, or 10.7% grade at the 25 km (15-1/2 mi) point if I took Bean Blossom Road from my place. Mason Ridge Campground has 19 primitive sites, Oak Ridge Campground for overflow has 10 primitive sites, with vault toilets and drinking water available; campers must register and pay a fee (unknown $ -- I haven't camped there before) at the forest office kiosk. Trash policy: "Pack It In, Pack It Out." Further info at https://www.in.gov/dnr/forestry/properties/morgan-monroe-state-forest

Mileage: 40
