National Bike Travel Weekend, June 3-5, 2016

Pedal to Paddlewheel

Start Location:
Folsom California 95630

Number of participants:
4

Ride Description:

We'll be riding a paved route to an overnight stay aboard the Delta King paddle wheeler. The route is 99% off city streets and away from cars, using the jewel of Sacramento's cycling infrastructure: the American River Bike Trail. Path runs continuously from the Sacramento downtown waterfront, all the way to Folsom Lake north of Folsom, CA. (Also known as the Jedediah Smith Memorial trail.) Our Friday morning start from downtown Folsom will give us a less-busy introduction. On Saturday, we'll see many regular weekend riders, enough to warm the sprockets of any cyclist's soul.

Terrain: flat to moderate, no real hills except short stretches of rolling dips. We'll start going west in Folsom at ~199 feet, riding mostly down to historic 'Old Sac' at -25 feet sea level.

Alternate return option: the RTD Light Rail for ~$2.00 goes between Sacramento Valley Station (next to Amtrak) and Historic Folsom. Station is barely 1/4 mile from the Delta King. Bikes are allowed on trains.
