Thank you for being part of an amazing weekend of bike travel this year! Check out a great wrap-up at our Member News page! We hope to see you register for Bike Your Park Day on September 24th, 2022 - registration will open soon!
Women/trans/femmes/non-binary bike riders of all levels are invited to join this overnight bike tour to William O'Brien State Park. This is a beginner-friendly tour, with all levels of riding and touring experience welcome. Our goal is to provide a supportive and confidence-building experience for beginners, as well as some joy and camaraderie for more experienced riders.
We will depart on Saturday, June 4 and return Sunday, June 5. The route is about 45 miles from south Minneapolis, with most of it on dedicated bike trails, including the Gateway Trail through St. Paul. We will camp at William O'Brien state park, and return the following day on the same route.
Required gear: Helmets are required. Riders will need to provide their own bicycle in working condition, racks and packs, and camping gear. The ride leaders have some gear to lend. See below for links and suggestions to acquire gear.
Ride logistics: We will set a route and provide maps, directions, and GPX files. Everyone rides at their own pace, and one of us will ride in the back as "sweep." This is a no-drop ride, open to all fitness levels and there is no requirement for pace; nonetheless, every rider should be able to complete the ride and come prepared with a flat repair kit.
Food: Everyone brings their own lunches and snacks. We will coordinate and share dinner and breakfast in the morning.
Cost: Beyond your gear and food costs, we'll ask everyone who is able to contribute around $25 for camping fees and food. (Scholarships are available!)
Pre-ride meeting: We'll meet two weeks before the trip to share the route and help each other prepare. We'll let you know the time and place.
The two women leading this ride have spent lots of time riding and traveling by bicycle. Anne Winkler-Morey recently published Allegiance to Winds and Waters, an outstanding book about her year-long bicycle tour around the US. Jennifer Leazer is an avid cyclist and has completed a few shorter tours. After reading Anne's book, Jen felt inspired to create this trip and asked Anne if she was interested in co-organizing it.
Registration for this event is currently closed. Check back soon for the launch of Bicycle Travel Weekend for 2023!
