Thank you for being part of an amazing weekend of bike travel this year! Check out a great wrap-up at our Member News page! We hope to see you register for Bike Your Park Day on September 24th, 2022 - registration will open soon!
On Saturday, we'll depart from the Old Town Transit Center at 7:30am. Our ride will take us from a busy area of the city along the San Diego River Path and through Mission Trails Regional Park.
As we approach east county we'll see a change in habitat and level of development. At approximately the 33 mile mark, we will arrive in Alpine where we will break for lunch.
After lunch, we will climb approximately 3,000 feet over 22 miles to the Green Valley Campground, which is in the forest of the Cuyamaca State Park. Our route from Alpine will primarily be on a well-maintained gravel road near the Viejas Casino through to Descanso and on a fire road from Descanso to the campground.
We will camp at the Green Valley Campground in the hike and bike campsite, which will cost $5 per person. The campground has potable water, flush toilets, and hot showers (for a small fee).
Day 1 totals will be approximately 5,000 feet of climbing over 50 miles.
On Sunday, we will plan to leave camp by 8:00 am with the goal of returning to the Old Town Transit Center by 3:00 pm.
Our route will start with a fast descent on SR-79, which we will connect to Japatul Valley Road to take west towards the Sycuan Casino. At approximately the 33 mile mark, we will stop in El Cajon for lunch, and after lunch, we will make our way back to the Old Town Transit Center.
Day 2 totals will be approximately 1,000 feet of climbing and 5,000 feet of descent over approximately 50 miles.
This will be a self-supported ride, so everyone will need to plan to bring camping equipment, food, and the means of carrying their own water. There will be plenty of opportunities to refill your water bottles along the way and to buy snacks.
Registration for this event is currently closed. Check back soon for the launch of Bicycle Travel Weekend for 2023!
