As luck would have it, this is the first day of BRAG (Bike Ride Across Georgia), a well-organized annual bike ride.
We will be riding lesser used paved roads from Lookout Mountain to LaFayette, Georgia via "Scenic Highway" and Chicamauga on this day, but by Saturday we finish the week in Columbus, Georgia. We start every day with a police escort through traffic lights, stop signs, etc until we get onto the backroads. Then it's well supported with 3-4 rest stops for food, fluids and porta-potties.
I am joining my brother from Atlanta (I live at Lake Tahoe) and one of his cycling pals for the week. He and his wife are camping most nights, but my wife and I motel it. Then my sister from North Georgia will join us in Carrollton with her husband and do the 2nd half. The family that bikes together....
Check out details at brag.org. I believe that this is one of the longest running annual organized bike tours in the country. This is their 41st year!
$380 registration for the week.
