Save the date for next year’s adventure!! We are already looking ahead to June 3 – 5, 2022 for the next Bike Travel Weekend!
The day starts out with rolling country hills through Fairfield County, CT and Westchester County, NY to Yorktown, NY and the North County Trail. From there it's all trail to Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, a quick detour on roads to cross the bridge into Manhattan and on to the Hudson River Greenway all the way to the tip of Manhattan with great views of the river, the Freedom Tower and the Statue of Liberty.
A quick ferry ride ($47 RT per passenger plus $10 RT for a bike) across New York Harbor and under the Verrazano Narrows Bridge will bring me to Highlands, NJ and a short 6 mile ride to a campsite next to the beach in Sandy Hook, NJ.
If all goes as planned, and the weather cooperates, I'll wake up early to watch a crescent sun rise from the ocean during the partial solar eclipse. After a bit of a nap, I'll retrace my route back home to watch my daughter play softball that evening.
Note: this ride will take place on June 9-10 to align with the solar eclipse
