Easy ride, mostly flat on state highway, county roads, town streets, 4-wheel drive trail, and path atop levee. First west on asphalt pedaling over old Hanapepe Bridge, then makai (toward ocean) past Buddhist temple, historic Japanese cemetery, then gravel and beachsand on rugged oceanside four-wheel drive road, then past traditional Hawaiian Salt Ponds and through Salt Pond County Beach Park. Loop back through Hanapepe town along malka (uphill) side of Hanapepe River under the shade of mature tropical trees along local residents homes and modest truck farms. Loopback and return atop levee edging the Hanapepe River. Cross the old bridge again to make a quick swing through old Hanapepe Town and enjoy the shops and art galleries and grab a cup of coffee or quick bite at one of the charming locations.
