Ride Description

Paved and dirt roads.

Using a 2017 Specialized AWOL gravel bicycle....

Expect to start in Harrison, Nebraska.

First night: Gordon, Neb. (Route 20/Sand Hills)

Second night: Whitman, Neb. (Route 2/Sand Hills)

Day three: Whitman, Neb., to Valentine, Neb. Route 2 to Mullen, then Route 97 north from Mullen, Neb. to Valentine, Neb.)

The route is my own, although I am quick to mention I won't be the first person to ever bicycle on these roads.

Plan to sleep in a Big Agnes tent and cook with an MSR stove. Water will come from two boxed wine bladders (three liters each) carried in a trunk pack.

Conversations with the locals will slow me down, but also contribute greatly to how much I enjoy the trip.

The terrain is mostly rolling hills, and wide open. Almost zero trees/zero shade. Most probably I will start pedaling each day before dawn and end each day at or around dusk.
