Join me from 6/1 to 6/6 TEST RIDING a freshly designed 398 miles, very hilly, bikepacking route showcasing the best of Massachusetts and Vermont and finishing on the Bike Travel Weekend.
The figure 8 loop heads north to the VT Green Mountains from Greenfield, MA with a short incursion in NY, then back through the Franklin County, MA. The first half of the trip borrows numerous sections of the VT Super 8 southern loop. It is a difficult route, some bikepacking experience and a decent physical condition are necessary to tackle the 16mi of single track, 40% paved and 60% gravel & dirt roads, including 2-3 miles of hike-a-bike, >50mm tires and 4 days of power supply recommended.
Elevation gain is +/- 33,000 ft, the longest climb is 10 miles, grades up to 13%. Daily mileage ranging from 50 to 85, expect very long days. There are 4 camping nights: 1 dispersed (wood shelter on the AT), 1 basic (water & toilets), 2 full service (shower) and 1 hotel night (Killington area).
