No bells or whistles just a pannier featuring quality craftsmanship and materials at an entry level price. The bags are created with 1000 denier Cordura, YKK zippers and feature reflective bands on the compression straps. The panniers are front loading with a large suitcase like main compartment. The adjustable aluminum hook system features a locking swivel for additional stability. External pockets are easy to access. Sold as a pair.
Mounting is easy and secure. I keep my tire repair supplies in the side pocket. I haven’t used them yet in a heavy rain so I can’t comment on water resistance. Not roomy enough for a long self supported tour but fine for commuting/errands/shopping.
Haven't used yet, but here are my impressions

I bought these panniers over the Ortlieb or others I had seen as I like the clamshell/zip open front design. I hate digging down into a bag for items and wanted full access. I also wanted the extra side pocket. Another feature that steered me towards the purchase was the very simple attachment with hooks and bungie. Bungies can easily be replaced and I had read some comments on other brands plastic hooks and attachments breaking. The Arkels have plastic-coasted, metal hooks, so combined with the bungie it seems like a super study system (I had a pannier for many, many years with this system and it was great). Now that I have the panniers I can see that they are well made and do not extend too high on the rack (I'm short so needed something that wouldn't impeded my getting on the bike). I'm not sure why this brand isn't sold in more places, but I'm glad I was able to get them from Adventure Cycling.
Very Good Basic Panniers

These are my first set of panniers and I have only used them for commuting. But they are constructed well using high quality materials, tons of room, extremely easy to install. I'm very pleased with them and can tell they will last me a very long time. Arkel didn't skimp when they made these basic panniers.

I’ve only had the opportunity to use them twice on short one and two night overnight outings. They are roomy, well made, and rugged. The pouch on the back is handy for carrying extra water bottles. They are easy to pack and unpack. The mounting system is super easy to adjust and the mounting couldn’t be easier.
