MISSOULA, MONT., April 3, 2016 — The bicycle and tourism industries have stepped up to support Adventure Cycling Association at a level not seen since the nonprofit’s founding event 40 years ago. Over a dozen sponsors are supporting three major events this year to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Adventure Cycling, with thousands of participants already registered.
Generous sponsors of Adventure Cycling’s 40th anniversary include Raleigh Bicycles and the Montana Department of Commerce at the Big Wheel level; Salsa Cycles and Advocate Cycles at the Top Tube level; Primal Wear, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana, Visit Mississippi, Travel Oregon, and Visit Idaho at the Hub level; and Osprey Packs, Experience Plus!, Destination Missoula, and the Missoulian at the Spokes level. Together, the sponsors are investing more than a quarter-million dollars in the success of these events.
“Bike tourism is booming, nationally and globally,” said Jim Sayer, Adventure Cycling’s executive director. “It is truly awesome to see the high level of support we’ve received from heritage brands like Raleigh Bicycles and bike travel destinations like Montana, Idaho, Mississippi, and Oregon.”
“Raleigh is honored to support Adventure Cycling’s 40th anniversary,” said Larry Pizzi, Raleigh’s senior vice president. “When we learned of the opportunity, we realized a perfect alignment with the association’s mission of inspiring and empowering people to travel by bicycle.”
Thousands of people have already signed up to participate in the 40th anniversary events:
National Bike Travel Weekend, June 3 - 5: Over 3,700 cyclists on over 240 unique trips throughout the world have already signed up at BikeTravelWeekend.org to go on one- or two-night bike overnights to a campground, hotel, B&B, or a friend’s house. This is expected to be the largest-ever weekend celebration of bike travel in North America.
Montana Bicycle Celebration, July 15 - 17: Hundreds of cyclists who participated in Bikecentennial in 1976 are reuniting at the Montana Bicycle Celebration, a multi-day event featuring bike rides, social events, and other activities. Thousands of other cycling enthusiasts from the region will also attend to commemorate the completion of the newly-minted Bitterroot Trail.
Bike Your Park Day, September 24: People of all ages will ride 1 to 100 miles to parks and public lands in the U.S. Over 3,000 people on over 220 unique rides have already registered at BikeYourParkDay.org.
“We are thrilled to have this level of support from the bicycle industry, the tourism industry, and other key brands,” said Jim Sayer, executive director of Adventure Cycling. “The support shows that the industries recognize that bicycle travel is booming. We look forward to giving the generous sponsors the exposure they deserve in 2016.”
