The Missoula Art Park opens Friday, April 21, and Adventure Cycling Association, the Missoula Art Museum, and the City of Missoula invite the public to an opening dedication with more events to follow on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22.
MISSOULA, MONT., APRIL 11, 2017 — Adventure Cycling Association, the Missoula Art Museum, and the City of Missoula proudly welcome the public to the opening dedication of Missoula’s new park, the Missoula Art Park, on Friday, April 21, from 4:30 to 7:30 PM. This new “creative space” was designed, endorsed and supported by an impressive array of community and downtown neighborhood stakeholders to become a people’s park in the best sense. Funding is a result of a collaboration between Adventure Cycling, the Missoula Art Museum, and the City of Missoula.
The dedication will include a ceremonial tree planting and a reception for artists in the first exhibition. Additional events are planned at the park for Earth Day on Saturday, April 22.
After the dedication on Friday, Adventure Cycling will keep its headquarters open to offer tours of its building, along with free six-month memberships and bicycle-themed stickers.
Adventure Cycling welcomed 1,582 visitors in 2016 and looks forward to greeting visitors in 2017 with this new park providing an outdoor art gallery and gathering spot as a gateway to its headquarters. Artwork featured at the park will change periodically and Adventure Cycling is honored to have the first exhibition feature bicycle-inspired artwork, including the artwork of Adventure Cycling Tours Specialist Whitney Ford-Terry.
“For ‘By the Bike,’ I wanted to take the opportunity to create a space for visitors to engage with bicycle travel through stories of exploration and wanderlust from some of my favorite voices in the bike-travel community,” Ford-Terry said. “To develop this listening space, I invited Randi Jo Fabrications, DFL Stitchworks, and local framebuilder Marlana Kosky to create a series of hammocks in which visitors could kick back, relax, and go on an audio bike tour.”
Earth Day cycling-centric celebrations at the Missoula Art Park on Saturday, April 22, will include:
