Two young adults will be selected to participate in an Adventure Cycling educational tour, free of costs
MISSOULA, MONTANA, January 12, 2015 — Adventure Cycling Association is now accepting submissions for the Young Adult Bike Travel Scholarship. Two successful candidates will be selected to participate in one of Adventure Cycling’s 2015 educational courses. Each scholarship covers transportation to attend one of the courses, the cost of the course (which includes meals and accommodations), as well as a new touring bicycle outfitted with bike travel gear such as panniers.
The goal of the scholarship is to provide young adults, ages 18-25, with access to bicycle travel through participation in either an Adventure Cycling Leadership Training Course or Introduction to Road Touring course. Upon completion of the course, scholarship recipients will perform outreach activities for their communities and peers to promote the activity of bicycle touring.
The scholarship program was developed at the request of Adventure Cycling members as a way to introduce more young people to the experience of bike travel. Adventure Cycling board member Andy Baur and his wife Betsy made a large match donation to fund the scholarships and to encourage members to raise money for the fund. “A key reason we were able to create this scholarship is because our members and donors want to ensure that the next generation learns to love bicycle touring,” said Executive Director Jim Sayer. “Based on our first year’s experience, we expect the program to grow and grow.”
The application period closes February 1, 2015.
