Graphic Designer

Adventure Cycling Association seeks a creative, well-organized, and detail-oriented person to fill the role of Graphic Designer. This is an opportunity for a talented creative join a motivated team in telling the visual story of bicycle travel in print and digital mediums. The ideal candidate will be a team player who works well in a fast-paced environment, meets deadlines, and works well under pressure. The candidate will ideally have previous experience in graphic design as well as an enthusiasm for cycling and bicycle travel. The position is based at Adventure Cycling’s headquarters in beautiful and bike-friendly Missoula, Montana.

General Summary

The Graphic Designer will work with the Art Director and the Design and Media team, and collaborate directly with other departments, to create and design a variety of publications, printed materials and web graphics.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and design various printed materials, web graphics, and print and online advertising.
  • Develop projects in collaboration with the Art Director, producing updates and advising on incoming material bottlenecks if they arise.
  • Participate in meetings and collaborate with appropriate Adventure Cycling staff and departments to determine objectives and timeline for projects.
  • Communicate effectively with project/department managers, keeping them updated on project progress, with the ability to accept constructive design input and incorporate appropriate revisions into the final design.
  • Ability to create multiple visual approaches (comps, sketches) to an assignment quickly without going to final art.
  • Present final designs to Art Director for approval before presenting to project manager.
  • Prepares design projects for press or web implementation.
  • Participates in post-production meetings regarding project’s timeline or procedural failures if they occur.
  • At the appropriate time participates with cross department teams such as Marketing team.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Design — Must be skilled and experienced with Adobe CC, particularly InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. It would be helpful to have knowledge of Acrobat Pro, CSS, HTML. Must possess a strong visual sense. It would be helpful, but not required, to have photography or illustration skills.
  • Communication and Collaboration-Must be a skillful listener and embrace teamwork while displaying an ability to work under pressure and quickly adapt to changes in design direction based on interaction with other staff.
  • Computers and Programs — Knowledge of Macintosh Operating Systems and in-depth knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, especially InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator (Digital Publishing Suite a plus).
  • Even temperament, with the ability to solve problems under pressure while always remaining professional and courteous.
  • Excellent team player who enjoys working with others for a great outcome. Good grasp of the web and all its potential. Enthusiastic about the outdoors, recreation, especially bicycling. Well organized and able/happy to meet deadlines.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field from four-year college, university or art/design school; or 2 to 4 years related experience and/or training in graphic design: or equivalent combination of education and experience. Of course, attention will be paid to candidate’s bicycling experience and their ability to bring humor and good spirits to the job and the workplace.

The position will be competitively compensated in the Northern Rockies region.
