Development Coordinator

Adventure Cycling Association seeks a well-organized, detail-oriented, and database-savvy person to fill the new, expanded position of Development Coordinator. The staff will be part of a three-person Development team at Adventure Cycling, working to raise funds for the organization’s mission to inspire, empower, and connect people to travel by bicycle. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has experience or interest in fundraising for a thriving and inspiring organization.

The ideal candidate will be a team player who works well with data, meets deadlines, and is skilled at prioritizing and multitasking. The candidate will ideally have some experience in fundraising, communications and/or marketing, as well as an enthusiasm for cycling and bicycle travel. The position is based at Adventure Cycling’s headquarters in beautiful and bike-friendly Missoula, Montana.

General Summary

The Development Coordinator is primarily responsible for maintaining day-to-day activities of the Development Department, including ongoing donor data entry and data management, thank you and gift recognition fulfillment, and gift stewardship. The position will also assist in prospect and grant research, as needed. While this position is mainly focused on the more technical aspects of fundraising like data entry and data management, this person will also interact with Adventure Cycling members/donors and should have a pleasant and engaging demeanor and exceptional interpersonal skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees all data entry and management related to donations, including monthly giving program, direct mail appeals, and third-party giving;
  • Manages donor recognition and fulfillment, including drafting and printing thank you letters, certificates, and envelopes, as well as fulfilling and tracking premium gifts;
  • Assists with direct mail preparation, including premium coordination, list preparation as needed, and packaging and mailing;
  • Updates and maintains donor records, and prepares reports as needed;
  • Conducts foundation and individual prospect research;
  • Corresponds with members/donors, as needed;
  • Other development tasks, as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience with donor/customer relationship management (CRM) database (Microsoft Access is ideal);
  • Attention to detail is paramount;
  • Well-organized, thorough, and able to meet deadlines;
  • Strong communication (written and oral), and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong interest in non-profit sector, including membership organizations.

Education and Experience

Candidates ideally have completed a four-year degree program from a college or university. Candidates with professional backgrounds in communications, marketing, development, and/or fundraising will be considered. Candidate should have 1-2 years previous experience in one or more of these fields. Cycling and bicycle touring experience a plus.
