What gets the equivalent
of 1,000 miles per
gallon, doesn't pollute,
will save the world,
and transports you in
breezy style? Your bike.

Northern Tier

TOUR DESCRIPTION

TRIP DATES: Jun 06, 2010 - Sep 07, 2010
START - END LOCATIONS: Anacortes, WA - Bar Harbor, ME

The Northern Tier has been the location for great bike adventures for a quarter of a century, traversing a wonderfully diverse cross-section of the North American continent. Your coastal beginning and ending points — Anacortes, Washington, and Bar Harbor, Maine — each receive approximately 50 inches of precipitation per year. Between those two towns, however, lie places of extremes, from the high, storm-battered basins of North Cascades National Park, where 140 inches of annual precipitation can fall, to the dry, windswept high plains of eastern Montana and western North Dakota, where a scant 10 inches annually is more the norm. So, too, do the landforms, flora, and fauna change continually throughout this trip: from the fern-rich rain forests of the western Cascades, to the glimmering lake country of the upper Midwest, to the lovely, sun-dappled hardwood forests of New England.

This is so much more than a 93-day bike tour across the northern states — it’s a life-changing experience just waiting to be had. Make 2010 your summer to cross the U.S. on the Northern Tier.
