Southern Tier - Fall

TOUR DESCRIPTION

TRIP DATES: Sep 18, 2009 - Nov 21, 2009
START - END LOCATIONS: San Diego, CA - St. Augustine, FL

The Southern Tier trip has proven so popular that this year we're offering the choice of riding from San Diego to St. Augustine in two different seasons. Regardless of what the calendar says, there's little not to like about this incredibly scenic, history-loaded 3,100 miles.

After your group participates in the ritualistic dipping of bicycle wheels in the Pacific, you'll climb eastward, pedaling through southern California, Arizona, and New Mexico. Next up: Texas, where you'll follow the Rio Grande River before hitting the Texas Hill Country, Lance Armstrong's training ground. From there it's on to Louisiana and the spicy heart (and kitchens) of Cajun Country. Finally, you'll roll along the Gulf Coast of Mississippi and Alabama, cross Florida's panhandle, and ride to journey's end at St. Augustine.

Along this entire route we'll experience an array of cultures and the delicious cuisines associated with each: from enchiladas to Texas barbecue; alligator po' boys to authentic Southern grits. Or, as one past participant put it, "This trip lends new meaning to the phrase `eating up the miles.'"
