California Winter Warmer

TOUR DESCRIPTION

TRIP DATES: Feb 28, 2009 - Mar 06, 2009
LOCATION: San Diego, California

Does the long, harsh winter leave you yearning for luminous skies and warming sunshine? A late winter/early spring ride along the sun-drenched roads of Southern California may be just what you need to start your riding season out right. We'll meet at Chula Vista, home of an official U.S. Olympic Committee training facility dedicated to training America's Olympic athletes in a variety of sports including, of course, cycling. The next morning, we'll skirt around the Lower Otay Reservoir, and climb to the Pinezanita Campground, nestled in the Laguna Mountains. Pedaling east, we'll head toward Borrego Springs, a small art-town completely surrounded by the amazing 600,000-acre Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.

Over the next few days we'll use Borrego Springs as our base camp, as we pedal a rolling loop over to Salton City, and then enjoy an optional day ride up and over Yaqui Pass Road (or we could opt to visit the many galleries, shops, and museums that bloom across the desert town of Borrego Springs.) The next day, we'll head back to Pinezanita, and then into Chula Vista via the Sunrise Highway.

Though we won't work you hard enough to prepare you for a stint at the Chula Vista Olympic Training Center, this ride will leave you feeling well prepared for the upcoming summer cycling season. Sign up today for this terrific pre-spring tune-up!
