2 Stars Good for personal accounts, short of applicable information.

Clearly written with a European Audience in mind. Much of the advice/tips and information is not applicable in my area. The amount of time spent on each region was far too brief. I plan to bike the trans-america route this was not even mentioned in the book. Personal accounts take up much of the remaining space, similar accounts more recent accounts are found on online blogs.

4 Stars Pure day dreaming material
by Bryan Signorelli from Benton, AR USA on Oct 5, 2010
Excellent advice in the front of this book on the equipment needed for long duration and long distance touring. The middle section is the meat of the book... info all about different countries, routes, considerations and details needed for proper planning. The last part is excerpts from several different journals and makes for great reading when day dreaming about your next trip of a lifetime.

5 Stars Adventure Cycle-Touring Handbook
by a member from Salt Lake City, Utah on Jul 29, 2009
Good book; I consider myself fairly experienced, so there wasn't a lot of new information. It substantiated much of what I think about touring, though if I was to go on a long extended tour in non-developed areas the book would be more helpful. I bought the book for 2 reasons. One, I give an annual bike-touring 101 lecture at the Salt Lake REI. I thought the book might help give me information from a very experienced cycle-tourer. It helped a little. Two- I write for Cycling Utah and I reviewed the book (along with Lovett's book, The Essential Touring Cyclist) For my review see the July 2009 issue of Cycling Utah (Cyclingutah.com)
