The gold standard; a rain jacket that also works well in cool dry weather. Made from eVent 3-layer waterproof breathable fabric this jacket is designed to maximize ventilation options so that the user can adapt to changing terrain and environmental conditions with 7 venting options. The cuffs have a gusset and special lycra fabric that can be opened to scoop cooling air up the arms and out the back vent. Two 7" (18 cm) pit zips can be opened for added ventilation as needed. The front zipper can be opened from the bottom as well as the top. This bottom pull zip allows the wearer to regulate temperature of the lower back without turning your jacket into a parachute. The back vent works with these six front vents to move hot air away from the body - keeping you cool prevents sweat build-up on climbs and when you’re working hard. Waterproof and breathable.

Features:

-Weight varies proportionally with size: a medium weighs approximately 13.0 ounces (380 grams)

-Front Napoleon pocket on left breast with waterproof zipper and internal audio port.

-Large back pocket welded to jacket (reduces bulk and weight)

-Waterproof front zipper with two-way slider

-Fully taped seams

-Large, covered back mesh vent

-Airflow regulating gussetted cuffs with velcro closures

-Tall collar to keep rain off your neck

-Elastic cinch-cords at collar and hem

-Extensive 3M scotchlite reflective taping

-Light loop (for attaching an LED flasher) on rear vent

-Micro-fleece collar

4 Stars The best rain/snow jacket around (with no heat build up!)
by a member from Paris, France on Jun 14, 2011
Downpour (and cold) usage from early Fall to late Spring (and even under some heavy summer European storms with just a wool T) and never a worry to stay dry (well, just the jacket part;)). For women, I do find that the arms are a little tight under the arms for any but the skinny built and that more than one base layer and a non-bulky second prevents usage with the pit zips closed (this is why I take one star out). Ventilation in the back and venting options are stupendous so I definitely use it on long multi-day trips, even though it doesn't store away as a shell (so what? I just roll and bunge it over whatever on my rear rack). Beautiful fit (nice flaring out in the back to sufficiently low) and efficiency against wind, beautiful red color, and very useful reflective parts. The sleeves I found too long since one is not doing aerobics on a bike, but the adjustable folding-with-velcro attachment leak proof wrists make up for having to fold back the sleeve - for me anyhow. The (separately sold) hood I found inconvenient because of impossibility to shorten if you're not wearing a helmet or if you're small (as I am), so that in those conditions it is even dangerous (prefer a helmet cover as the chin part of jacket is adjustable and won't leak water).

5 Stars Solid
by DM from Columbus, OH USA on Dec 8, 2009
Well...not solid. This jacket breathes well in warm and wet conditions. And ripe with great design details. Paired with my Showers Pass pants, this is my go-to jacket. Breathes much better than my old Endura (which I still use on very cold days for less strenuous rides). Recommended.
