JOIN A TEAM
As more states get involved in implementation, there is more opportunity to get involved at the local and state level. For direct involvement, see the Corridor Plan; click on your state in the map at the top, and then under each state listing, you'll fine the contact person for getting involved in your state.
Other ways to help, join your state advocacy organization, bike advisory board or bike club and take up the cause. Voices united have strength and can get more done. These groups often have already established a relationship with the transportation sector. For groups you can join in your state, see the Cyclists’ Yellow Pages and search by state, or call your state bicycle and pedestrian coordinator and ask them with whom you should be working.
JOIN THE DISCUSSION
Join our Discussion Forums and share the best routes you know. Are there scenic and historic corridors at the local level that should be included? Do you want a U.S. Bike Route to run through your community? What are great urban and suburban routes that link the corridors to transportation hubs and/or airports? You post it and we’ll make sure the information gets to the decision makers.
SUPPORT THE DECISION MAKERS
State transportation agencies are being stretched by today’s economy and need help getting projects off the ground. Contact your state bicycle and pedestrian coordinator and find out how you or your organization can serve. Be prepared to help in the following areas: drafting U.S. Bike Routes for your city, township, county, state or region; educating local agencies and community leaders about bicycle travel and the benefits of the USBRS; attaining local agency agreements for U.S. Bike Routes (USBR); mapping and/or sign placement (see Steps for Designating a USBR and Flowchart).
