Summary: I took a friend along - on this, my second trip to Ireland - to show him the beautiful countryside. Cycling through counties Clare, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim, Donegal, Londonderry and Antrim, we covered 41 miles a day and stayed in B&Bs throughout our trip. At night, we sought out trad music in the local pubs. We returned to our starting point on the train from Coleraine, N. Ireland via Dublin to Limerick, then cycled back to our starting point in Newmarket-on-Fergus. ; Self-Planned

Motivation: After my first trip to Ireland in 1988 I was sufficiently intrigued by the beauty of the country and the friendliness of the people that I wanted to see more. I have now biked around Ireland and Northern Ireland eight times and plan to go back again and again.
Most Challenging Aspect:The bumpy Irish roads tend to tire you out a bit at day's end. Other than that, there's the minor inconvenience of near-daily trickles of rain. After all, it's Ireland!
Favorite Experience: The approach to majestic Mt. Errigal in Co. Donegal up a long, gentle mountain pass is nothing short of spectacular. It can be seen from miles away. Also, meeting the fabulously friendly Irish people and their families in their homes each night is always a treat.
Least Favorite: None
Tips: Find some trad music in the pubs at night and you won't be disappointed!
